Nikolaj Velimirović

Born in 1880 in Serbia, Nikolaj Velimirović studied theology and went on to become a bishop in the Serbian Orthodox Church. He was known both as a preacher and as a prolific author, writing sermons, prayers, meditations, and religious essays that reached a wide audience.

His life crossed some of the most turbulent decades in Europe. Alongside his church leadership, he taught, lectured, and wrote extensively, and he became an important public religious figure among Serbs at home and abroad.

Velimirović died in 1956. In the years since, his legacy has remained significant in Orthodox Christian life, especially through books that continue to be read for their spiritual intensity and accessible style.
