About the author
Phyllis Ni Zhang is Professor Emeritus of Chinese and International Affairs at George Washington University, where she has taught since 2004. She directed the university’s Chinese language program from 2004 to 2014 and became the founding director of its MA in Chinese Language and Culture program in 2014. She holds a Doctor of Education in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University.
Zhang has authored several Chinese-language textbooks, including David and Helen in China, Developing Chinese Fluency: Biaoda, Ni Wo Ta, and Transitions. Her professional interests include Chinese linguistics, technology-enhanced language teaching, and proficiency development and assessment. She has also served as a certified ACTFL Chinese proficiency tester and held leadership roles in Chinese-language teaching organizations.
