Born on July 4, 1857, in Nakkila, Finland, Gustaf Nestor Tanner was a Finnish writer. Sources also note that he earlier used the surname Mäntylä.
Only a modest amount of biographical information is easy to confirm, but his known works place him among Finnish literary voices of the late 1800s. Titles associated with him include Sinivuokkoja Suomen salomailta (1890), Maisteri kesävieraana, and the play "Kännit", along with Toivo ja Helmi. Some of his writing remains available through Project Gutenberg, which has helped keep his work discoverable for modern readers.
Because detailed records are limited, the outline of his life is fragmentary. Even so, the surviving bibliography shows a writer active in both prose and drama, with work rooted in Finnish-language publishing of his era.
