About the author

Gustaf Nestor Tanner, born on July 4, 1857, in Nakkila, was a Finnish writer. Finnish-language reference sources identify him as a novelist and playwright, and note that his earlier family name was Mäntylä.

Only a small amount of biographical detail appears to be widely available online, but several of his works have survived. These include Sinivuokkoja Suomen salomailta (1890), the play Maisteri kesävieraana in later 19th-century editions, "Kännit", a two-act musical play published in 1903, and Toivo ja Helmi (1905).

Modern readers are most likely to encounter Tanner through free digital editions. Project Gutenberg currently lists two of his Finnish works, helping keep his writing accessible even though he remains a fairly obscure figure today.
