About the author

Born in Denmark in 1865, N. P. Gravengaard was a Lutheran pastor who later built his life and ministry in the United States. Library and public-domain records identify him as Niels Peter Gravengaard and connect him with devotional writing in both Danish and English.

His best-known surviving title is A Christmas Gift to the American Home and the Youth of America (1920), translated from Danish by Georg Sophus Strandvold. Contemporary front matter for that book describes him as a former president of the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and it also points to earlier works including Eternal Life and Everlasting Joy and Lectures.

Gravengaard's writing seems aimed at ordinary readers rather than specialists: homes, families, church communities, and young people. Even from the small record that survives online, he comes across as an author who wanted devotion, encouragement, and Christmas reflection to feel personal and welcoming.
