by Muriel Hine
Born Muriel Florence Hine in Nottingham on 18 January 1874, she became a well-known British novelist whose career stretched across the first half of the 20th century. She wrote under her own name and also as Mrs Sidney Coxon, drawing that pen name from her husband.
Hine published around 35 volumes of fiction between 1910 and 1950. She was especially associated with romantic and society novels, including Half in Earnest, and some reference works also note her ventures into fantasy and speculative fiction, such as The Seven Lovers and Other Tales and The Island Forbidden to Man.
She died on 16 June 1949. Though not as widely remembered today as some of her contemporaries, she was a notably productive writer whose books give a glimpse into the tastes and storytelling styles of her era.
