An adventurous early-20th-century travel writer, she is remembered for a vivid account of a journey through British Guiana to Mount Roraima. Writing as Mrs. Cecil Clementi, she brought distant landscapes to life with a direct, observant style.

by Mrs. Cecil Clementi
Marie Penelope Rose Eyres Clementi (1889–1970), better known in print as Mrs. Cecil Clementi, was the author of Through British Guiana to the Summit of Roraima, published in 1920. Project Gutenberg and library records identify her under both her married name and her full name, Marie Penelope Rose Eyres Clementi.
She was born Marie Penelope Rose Eyres on 4 November 1889 and married Cecil Clementi in 1912. Contemporary and archival records connect her closely with British Guiana, where her husband served in the colonial administration, and her best-known book grows out of that setting.
Her writing has lasting appeal for listeners who enjoy classic travel narratives: it combines firsthand adventure, striking natural scenery, and the sense of exploring a region that was little known to many readers of her time. Little widely documented biographical detail about her own literary career appears to survive online, but her Roraima book remains a clear example of her curiosity and gift for description.
