Margaret Gatty, often published as Mrs. Alfred Gatty, was an English writer born in 1809 and died in 1873. She is especially remembered for Parables from Nature, a series that used scenes from the natural world to tell moral and spiritual stories in a way many Victorian readers found warm and accessible.
She also wrote for children, including The Fairy Godmothers and Other Tales and Aunt Judy's Tales. Her work often mixed gentle instruction with imagination, which helped make her a familiar name in family reading of the period.
Gatty was the wife of the Reverend Alfred Gatty, and some sources note that she also published under her own name, Margaret Gatty. Her writing still stands out for its calm, observant style and for the way it turns everyday plants, animals, and small events into memorable stories.
