About the author

Born Caroline Rosetta Small in British India on February 10, 1829, she became known to readers by the pen name Mrs. Alexander Fraser. She wrote during the Victorian era and published popular romantic and society fiction under her married name.

Her work is closely associated with the world of late-19th-century high society, where love, status, and scandal often collide. Surviving listings of her books include Daughters of Belgravia, Guardian and Lover, The Last Drawing Room, A Modern Bridegroom, and The New Duchess, which gives a good sense of the elegant, dramatic world she liked to explore.

She died in 1908. Though not as widely known today as some of her contemporaries, her novels still offer a lively window into Victorian tastes, especially for readers who enjoy old-school romance, social maneuvering, and glittering drawing-room drama.
