About the author

Born in Moscow in 1875, he trained as a physician there before moving to the United States. By 1904 he had settled in Cincinnati, where he served for years as an instructor in the dermatological department of the University of Cincinnati's medical school.

He later moved to Los Angeles in 1918 and continued his medical career in dermatology. Alongside his clinical work, he wrote for general readers as well as medical audiences, aiming to explain difficult health subjects in a straightforward way.

Today he is most often remembered for Sex Problems of Man in Health and Disease (1916), a book that tried to make medical knowledge about men's sexual health more accessible to the public. He died in 1942.
