author
A little-known writer remembered for a classic girls' story set in the Australian bush, she left behind work that still speaks through its setting, warmth, and sense of family life.

by Molly E. Jamieson
Little is firmly documented about this author. AustLit notes that nothing is known for certain, though it suggests she may have been Mary E. Jamieson, born in 1869 in Deniliquin, New South Wales; it also notes that she may instead have been an English writer.
She is best known for Ruby: A Story of the Australian Bush, a juvenile novel set in Australia. Project Gutenberg also lists her among its authors, which has helped keep her work available to modern readers.
AustLit records a few other titles connected with her, including Jack at Sunset and Alec's Sacrifice, though those works have not been traced. Because the surviving biographical record is so thin, her reputation today rests mainly on the endurance of Ruby rather than on a well-documented life story.
