About the author

Born Maria Wilhelmina Lindroos in Helsinki in 1841, she later became known as Minna Krohn. Reliable sources identify her as a Finnish teacher and the editor of the children's magazine Pääskynen, where she published poems and stories for young readers.

Those writings were gathered into the 1883 book Pääskysen liverryksiä lapsille. She married Julius Krohn in 1876, becoming part of a remarkable literary family; their children included Aino Kallas, who would go on to become a major writer in her own right.

Minna Krohn died in Helsinki in 1917. Although she is not as widely known today as some members of the Krohn family, her work for children and her place in Finnish literary history give her a lasting importance.
