Milka Pogačić was a Croatian teacher and writer, born in Zagreb on February 10, 1860, and died there on April 11, 1936. She is noted for studying school systems and European reform movements in education, and for bringing those ideas into her own writing and public work.
Under the influence of social pedagogy, especially the ideas of Friedrich Wilhelm Foerster, she argued for better living conditions and schooling for poor children. She was also active in the Association of Women Teachers of the Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia, where her efforts were closely tied to care and education for vulnerable children.
Her literary work is often remembered for its compassionate attention to children on the margins. Later museum and scholarly accounts describe her as a voice for the overlooked child, combining educational thought with a strong sense of social responsibility.
