About the author

Mykhailo Hrushevsky (1866–1934) was a Ukrainian historian, scholar, and political leader. He is best known for his multi-volume History of Ukraine-Rus’, a landmark study that presented Ukrainian history as a distinct and continuous story.

Hrushevsky taught at the University of Lviv and later became involved in public life during the upheavals of 1917. He chaired Ukraine’s Central Rada, the revolutionary parliament that sought national autonomy and independence. After years of political pressure and exile, he returned to Soviet Ukraine, where he continued his research until his death in 1934.
