Best known as Mel Hunter, Milford Joseph Hunter III was an American illustrator born on July 27, 1927, and he died on February 20, 2004. He built a wide-ranging career in science fiction, technical, and scientific illustration, creating work for writers including Isaac Asimov and Robert A. Heinlein.
