A prolific English novelist and playwright, she published more than 50 popular novels and saw several of her stories adapted for the screen. Writing under the name May Edginton, Helen Marion Edginton built a career on brisk, readable fiction that reached audiences well beyond Britain.

About the author

Born Helen Marion Edginton on December 20, 1883, she became known to readers as May Edginton and went on to publish over 50 novels in London. Her work also extended to the stage, including collaborations with playwright Rudolf Besier, and some of her fiction was later adapted into films.

Edginton wrote popular fiction in the early 20th century, with books such as Married Life; or, The True Romance helping establish her reputation. Her stories traveled widely in translation, and her mix of domestic drama, romance, and lively plotting made her a familiar name to many readers of her time.

She died on June 17, 1957, in Rondebosch, South Africa. Although she is less widely remembered today than some of her contemporaries, her large body of work offers a vivid glimpse into the tastes and storytelling styles of a very productive popular novelist.
