About the author

Born in Hämeenkyrö on September 8, 1848, Mauno Rosendal was a Finnish teacher, writer, and religious leader who became an important figure in public life. He is also known as Magnus Rosendal, and alongside his educational work he took part in national politics in the early 1900s.

Rosendal is especially remembered for his connection to the Finnish revivalist movement known as herännäisyys. He wrote extensively on religious history and faith, and his major achievement was a multi-volume history of the movement in 19th-century Finland. His writing gives modern readers a window into the spiritual life, social change, and public concerns of his era.

He died in Oulu on October 21, 1917. Today, he is remembered not only as a politician and educator, but as an author who documented an influential chapter of Finnish religious and cultural history.
