About the author

Born in 1859 in Utah Territory, he became a leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was the son of Wilford Woodruff Cowley and grew up in a family closely tied to the early Latter-day Saint community.

Alongside his church service, he became known as a writer whose books and reminiscences helped record the memory of the Mormon pioneer era. His best-known work is Wilford Woodruff, History of His Life and Labors, a biography that drew on his close family connection and helped preserve the story of the fourth president of the church.

His writing remains valuable to readers interested in nineteenth-century Utah, early church history, and the personal side of religious leadership. He died in 1940, leaving behind both a public legacy in church history and a written record that continues to interest historians and general readers alike.
