Born in St. Albans, Vermont, on February 23, 1868, she moved to Quebec in 1888 and built a long career in public libraries. She worked at the Westmount Public Library from 1901 to 1931 and became especially known for developing services for children.
Alongside her library work, she wrote essays, sketches, reviews, and books. Her best-known title, Our Little Quebec Cousin (1919), introduced young readers to everyday life in Quebec, reflecting her gift for making places and people feel vivid and approachable.
Remembered as both a librarian and an author, she was part of the early growth of public library culture in Quebec. She died in Montreal on May 27, 1942.
