Born in Magdeburg on March 10, 1817, Marie Nathusius was a German writer and composer of songs. She is remembered as a widely read author of popular fiction for adults and young readers in the mid-1800s.
Her best-known works include Tagebuch eines armen Fräuleins (1854), Langenstein und Boblingen (1855), and Elisabeth, ein Märchen aus der wirklichen Welt (1856). Contemporary reference sources describe her as one of the most-read German entertainment and youth writers of her generation.
Nathusius died in Neinstedt on December 22, 1857. Though her life was short, her stories left a strong mark on 19th-century family reading, especially through their mix of everyday feeling, Christian values, and accessible storytelling.
