About the author

Born in Fürth in 1855, Marie Beeg—also published as Marie Ille-Beeg or Maria Beeg—grew up in a literary and artistic family. She studied at the art school in Nuremberg and later lived in Munich, where she married the painter and illustrator Eduard Ille.

A long illness changed the course of her life. During years of being confined largely to bed, she began creating picture books and then writing stories for children and young people, especially girls. She became known as both an author and an illustrator, blending warm storytelling with a strong visual imagination.

Marie Beeg died in 1927. Her books remain of interest today through library collections and public-domain editions, offering a glimpse into German children's literature from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
