Margaret Whitley is a speaker, writer, Montessori consultant, and lifelong learner whose work grows out of more than 50 years of experience with Montessori education. She describes herself as someone who first encountered Montessori as a child and later returned to it as a teacher, parent, school leader, teacher trainer, consultant, and writer.
After completing elementary teacher training in Italy, she spent more than 35 years in Montessori education, teaching across the elementary levels and helping establish what is described as the first Montessori middle school in Canada in 1988. She also served for 13 years as head of Montessori Academy of London, the school she had attended as a child.
Her writing and talks focus on Montessori education, child development, and the preparation of adults who guide children. Across her work, she emphasizes independence, responsibility, and the lasting value of an education that respects the child's natural growth.
