by Margaret Moyes Black
Born in the parish of Scoonie, Fife, on April 27, 1853, Margaret Moyes Black was a Scottish writer remembered for both fiction and biography. She was the daughter of William Black, a shipmaster, and Margaret Moyes Deas.
She published her first novel, In Glenoran, under the pseudonym M.B. Fife and went on to write a number of novels and shorter works, many linked with Scottish settings and characters. She is also known for her biographical writing, including a volume on Robert Louis Stevenson in the Famous Scots Series.
Black never married and died in Montrose, Angus, on October 16, 1935. Public reference pages about her appear to survive, but I could not confirm a suitable portrait image from the pages I checked, so no author photo is included here.
