About the author

Luigi Lucatelli (Rome, 1877–1915) was an Italian writer, journalist, and war correspondent. He was the son of patriot Annibale Lucatelli and wrote novels, short stories, articles, and commentary on public life.

Lucatelli gained his greatest popularity through the humor magazine Il Travaso delle idee, where he created Oronzo E. Marginati, the “citizen who protests.” Through this fictional voice, he mixed common sense, Roman dialect, and bureaucratic jargon to satirize the habits and hypocrisies of bourgeois society.

His works include O.E. Marginati intimo, Così parlarono due imbecilli, La parte del baritono, Nel cuore dell’Africa, Francia sanguinante, and Come ti erudisco il pupo, many of them published under his famous pseudonym.
