About the author

Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on January 17, 1882, Louise Morey Bowman was educated by private tutors, studied at Dana Hall School in Massachusetts, and also traveled in Europe. After marrying Archibald Bowman in 1909, she lived in Toronto before moving to Montreal, where she remained for the rest of her life.

She published her first poetry collection, Moonlight and Common Day, in 1922. Her next book, Dream Tapestries (1924), won Quebec's Prix David, and she went on to publish more poetry in the years that followed.

Bowman is remembered as a Canadian poet associated with early modernist and imagist styles. She died in Montreal on September 28, 1944.
