Born in 1914, Louis Raphael Nardini Sr. was a historian and author closely connected to Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. He is best known for writing about the history of northwestern Louisiana, especially the old frontier road known as El Camino Real and the long story of Natchitoches and its surroundings.

His best-known books include No Man's Land: A History of El Camino Real (1961) and My Historic Natchitoches, Louisiana and Its Environment (1963). Readers have valued his work for making local and regional history approachable while still paying attention to important names, dates, and the many communities that shaped the area.

Nardini died in 1975, but his reputation as a careful local historian has lasted. In 2025, the Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society posthumously honored him with the Order of Cavelier Sieur de La Salle, recognizing his contribution to preserving Louisiana history.
