Born in 1800, Lewis Falley Allen became known as an American farmer, businessman, politician, and influential member of Buffalo society. His long career connected agriculture, public life, and business at a time when western New York was growing quickly.
Allen is especially noted for his connection to Grover Cleveland. As Cleveland’s uncle-in-law, he is widely credited with helping the young Cleveland enter the worlds of law and politics, an early step on the path that eventually led Cleveland to the presidency.
He died in 1890, leaving behind a reputation as a prominent Buffalonian whose influence reached beyond his own work and into the political history of the United States.
