author
A little-known historical novelist from around the turn of the 20th century, remembered today for swashbuckling tales of chivalry, court intrigue, and battle. His surviving books point to a taste for romance, adventure, and vividly imagined medieval settings.

by Knox Magee
Very little confirmed biographical information about this author appears to survive online, which makes Knox Magee something of a literary mystery. What can be confirmed is that he wrote With Ring of Shield, published in 1900, and Mark Everard, published in 1901.
The surviving work most easily verified today is With Ring of Shield, a historical adventure set in the age of Edward IV, with tournaments, shifting loyalties, and battlefield drama. The book was illustrated by F. A. Carter, and the Project Gutenberg text preserves its original title-page details, showing publication in Toronto by George J. McLeod and copyright in 1900 by R. F. Fenno & Company.
Because so little dependable background on Magee himself is readily available, the books remain the clearest guide to his voice: energetic, old-fashioned, and full of pageantry. For listeners who enjoy forgotten historical fiction from the late Victorian and Edwardian era, his work offers a glimpse into the kind of romantic adventure that once filled popular bookshelves.
