About the author

Born in Mikkeli on July 7, 1822, and died in Jyväskylä on March 9, 1872, Claes Fredrik Corander was a Finnish teacher and journalist. His name also appears as Klaus, Clas, or Klas Corander, which is why older catalogs and digital libraries may list him in different ways.

Corander wrote under the pen names Lavus Corander, Lavus, and Savon Lassi. Alongside his work in education and journalism, he left behind writings that have been preserved in library and public-domain collections, helping modern readers discover a distinctly 19th-century Finnish voice.

Although not widely known outside specialist and library circles, he stands out as one of those authors whose work connects everyday life, print culture, and regional identity in Finland’s literary past.
