by Kathleen Fitzpatrick
Kathleen Fitzpatrick was born in 1872, but very little is known about her life. Later references describe her as an Irish author who lived in England, while literary commentary notes that she remains a largely mysterious figure.
Her best-known work, The Weans at Rowallan, was first published in 1905. Set in rural County Down, the novel follows a group of children whose mischief, imagination, and adventures unfold amid family troubles, local folklore, and the rhythms of village life. The book was later reissued under the title They Lived in County Down.
