About the author

Born in Turku on August 25, 1887, Kaarlo Edvard (Eetu) Takalampi was a Finnish journalist and writer. Finnish biographical sources identify him as a reporter who worked for Rauman Lehti, and they note that he died in Viipuri on April 24, 1918.

Takalampi is best known for Saksalaisten sotavankina: Muistelmia ja kuvia, a memoir based on his experiences after the steamship Uleåborg was sunk by a German torpedo boat off Rauma in 1914. That background gives the book its direct, eyewitness quality and makes it especially interesting for readers drawn to personal accounts of war and captivity.

Although his career was brief, his surviving work preserves the voice of a journalist writing close to the events he lived through. For modern listeners, he offers a compact but memorable glimpse of Finnish literary and historical life in the early twentieth century.
