About the author

Born in Rautalampi in 1875, Kaarlo Vihtori Luoto was a Finnish journalist and author. He is also remembered as a radical political figure and, alongside Johan Kock, one of the leaders of the Helsinki Red Guard during the 1905 general strike.

Luoto’s career moved between journalism, fiction, and political activism. Sources such as the Finnish National Biography describe him as a writer, editor, and left-wing radical, while Project Gutenberg’s author page shows that a substantial body of his writing has been preserved and remains accessible.

He died in 1947. Today, he stands out as a writer whose life reached well beyond literature alone, linking books, newspapers, and the turbulent public struggles of his time.
