About the author

Born in Tampere on July 29, 1875, he was originally named Gabriel David Ahlqvist and took the name Kaapo Murros in 1895. After finishing school, he studied for a time at the University of Helsinki but soon turned to journalism, working for several newspapers before building a wider public career.

Murros spent part of the early 1900s in the United States after opposing the illegal conscriptions imposed under Russian rule, and he worked with Finnish-American newspapers there. He returned to Finland in 1906, later qualified in law, and also served in the Parliament of Finland from 1910 to 1913 as a Social Democrat.

Alongside journalism and politics, he wrote extensively, and his name remains connected with Finnish literary and public history from a time of major social change. He died in Tampere on March 17, 1951.
