About the author

Born in Tampere in 1858 and later known as Kaarle Olavi Lindeqvist, he studied at the University of Helsinki, where he completed advanced degrees in history and earned a doctorate in 1886. He went on to work as a history scholar and lycée teacher, and he later received the title of professor.

Lindeqvist is remembered as a broad-ranging historian whose writing covered both Finnish history and local history. A digitized library note describing one of his works on the years 1808–1809 in Hämeenlinna calls him an important and versatile researcher, and notes that he is especially remembered there for his histories of the city.

He died in Helsinki in 1927. His career also left a mark through teaching: later historian Gunnar Suolahti is noted as having been inspired by Lindeqvist’s history lessons while a student in Hämeenlinna.
