About the author

Born in Jämsä on June 1, 1887, Kalle Nikodemus Rauhala was a Finnish writer, journalist, and cooperative movement figure. Before 1906, his family name was Fredman, and during his career he also used several pen names, including Ilmari Kankari, Johannes Karma, Nikodemus, and Kaarlo Raula.

Rauhala wrote across a wide range of subjects rather than staying in a single lane. His surviving bibliography shows nonfiction on politics, social questions, temperance, and public affairs, alongside literary work published under different names. That mix gives him the feel of a practical public writer: someone interested not only in storytelling, but also in explaining the world around him.

He died in Helsinki on March 22, 1937. Detailed biographical information appears to be limited, but the available record presents him as a versatile early 20th-century Finnish author whose writing connected literature, journalism, and civic debate.
