About the author

Born in Eschau in Lower Franconia in 1815, Karl Heinrich Caspari studied at the gymnasiums in Schweinfurt and Nuremberg and then at the University of Erlangen. He later served as a Protestant pastor in Sommerhausen, Eschau, Kulmbach, and Munich.

Alongside his church work, he wrote extensively for a broad public. Reference sources describe him as an evangelical-Lutheran clergyman, theologian, and writer, and bibliographic records connect his name with both devotional works and popular historical narratives, including Der Schulmeister und sein Sohn and Alte Geschichten aus dem Spessart.

Caspari died in Munich in 1861, still only in his forties. Even from the small record that survives online, he comes across as a writer who cared about making faith, history, and storytelling accessible to everyday readers.
