About the author

Born in Lund on July 30, 1875, Karl Gustav Ossiannilsson grew up in Malmö and studied at Lund University before working as a tutor and teacher. He first attracted attention as a poet, and over time became known as one of Sweden’s prolific literary figures, writing not only verse but also prose, youth books, and historical novels.

He was also active in public life when he was young and played a visible role in the early Swedish labor movement, including work connected to the Social Democratic youth organization. Later, his political outlook changed, but his writing remained central to his life, and he continued to publish across many genres.

Ossiannilsson also worked as a translator, helping bring other writing into Swedish. He died on March 14, 1970, in Rystad, having left behind a remarkably long career that linked literature, politics, and cultural debate in modern Sweden.
