About the author

Born in Liverpool, Ohio, on January 28, 1834, she grew up writing from a young age and later built a long literary career in the Midwest. She wrote under her own name and also used the pen name Petresia Peters, publishing poetry and prose while becoming known in Ohio literary circles.

She was active as an editor as well as an author, including work connected with the National Grange, and she served as Ohio vice-president of the Western Association of Writers. Her books include Hazel Bloom, a collection of poems, and her writing often turned to family life, devotion, nature, and everyday feeling.

She spent much of her later life in Wauseon, Ohio, and died on August 26, 1924. Today she is remembered as one of the many industrious American women writers of the 19th century who helped shape local and regional literary culture through both publishing and editorial work.
