1878–1919
A Finnish schoolteacher and writer, he is remembered above all for a lively 1912 book about the devil that mixed folklore, history, and popular storytelling. His work has kept a small but lasting place in Finland's literary curiosity cabinet.
Born in 1878, he was a Finnish teacher and author who wrote in Finnish at the beginning of the 20th century. He is best known for Piru: historiallinen katsaus pirun alkuperään, elämään ja toimintaan, published in 1912, a work that explored ideas and stories about the devil in an accessible, wide-ranging way.
Although he is not among Finland's best-known literary figures today, his name still surfaces in bibliographic records and reference pages because of that unusual book and the distinct niche it occupies. He died in 1919, leaving behind a brief body of work but an intriguing literary legacy.
