About the author

Born in 1863, Francis A. March Jr. was an American scholar and writer associated with Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. Library of Congress authority records identify him as Francis Andrew March Jr., and note his work as a professor of English literature at Lafayette as well as his earlier connection to Cornell University.

He wrote and edited books aimed at broad readers, especially in history and language. His name is attached to History of the World War, a widely circulated account of World War I, and he also collaborated on March's thesaurus and dictionary of the English language, continuing a family connection to the study of words and reference publishing.

March remained a member of the Lafayette faculty for decades, and his death in 1928 was noted by the college community. He was the son of the distinguished scholar Francis Andrew March, and his own career reflects that same strong link between teaching, literary study, and practical reference work.
