Born in Girona on December 17, 1875, Josep Morató i Grau was a Catalan writer and journalist who later died in Barcelona on October 16, 1918. Sources agree that he worked as a journalist as well as a creative writer, and that he served as editor-in-chief of La Veu de Catalunya from 1910 to 1918.
He is remembered for fiction written in Catalan, including Arran del Cingle, which has remained available through major digital libraries. That mix of newsroom experience and literary work gives his writing a grounded, observant quality that still feels approachable today.
Although not as widely known internationally as some of his contemporaries, he holds a clear place in Catalan literary history as part of the generation of early modern Catalan prose writers and cultural journalists.
