Josep Pin i Soler

Born in Tarragona on May 11, 1842, Josep Pin i Soler became a Catalan writer, translator, and dramatist associated with the realist movement. Sources describe a difficult early life: he lost his father when he was young, came from a modest family, and worked as a carpenter or cabinetmaker before building his career in letters.

He wrote across several genres, including fiction, theater, travel narrative, criticism, didactic works, translations, and opinion pieces. His most widely noted work is La família dels Garrigas, and he is also remembered as an important figure in late 19th-century Catalan drama.

Pin i Soler died in Barcelona on January 31, 1927. He is still remembered as an intellectual and humanist whose work helped strengthen modern Catalan literature.
