Josef von Neupauer

Born in Graz and trained in law, he earned a doctorate there and later lived as a landowner and public figure in Styria. He was also active in politics, serving in the Austrian parliament, but he wrote books that reached beyond day-to-day affairs into larger questions about society and the future.

His best-known literary work is Österreich im Jahre 2020, published in 1893, a speculative novel that pictures Austria in a future age. He also wrote works such as Viribus unitis and Der Kollektivismus und die sociale Monarchie, showing his interest in politics, social order, and reform.
