Born in Villarreal in 1853, he first studied locally in a religious setting before moving on to Barcelona, where he earned a degree in pharmacy in 1874. After a period running a pharmacy back in his hometown, he settled in Valencia and, in 1890, joined the Cuerpo de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios y Arqueólogos. Two years later he was in charge of the medical library at the University of Valencia.
Alongside his professional work, he wrote on language and took a strong interest in the normalization of Valencian. He is especially remembered for works such as Apuntes para una gramática valenciana popular (1894) and Tratado de ortografía valenciana clásica (1910), which reflect his attempt to give Valencian a practical written standard.
He died in Valencia in 1914. Although not a widely known figure today, he remains part of the early history of Valencian grammar and language debate.
