About the author

Born in Barcelona and active in both Catalan and Spanish, José Feliú y Codina was part of the literary world shaped by realism and the Catalan cultural revival known as the Renaixença. He studied law at the University of Barcelona, but journalism and literature became the center of his career.

He wrote for newspapers, produced novels and plays, and built a reputation for works that drew on contemporary life and recognizable settings. His best-known title is La Dolores, a drama that became widely popular and later inspired an opera by Tomás Bretón.

Feliú y Codina spent his final years in Madrid, where he continued his literary work until his death in 1897. Though not as widely known today as some of his contemporaries, he remains an important figure in late 19th-century Spanish and Catalan letters.
