Born in Amsterdam on October 20, 1864, Joseph Loopuit was a Dutch socialist public figure whose work connected journalism and politics. He is associated with the Social Democratic Workers' Party and is remembered as part of the wider movement that helped shape modern Dutch social democracy.
Loopuit also worked in the press world, including at Het Volk, the newspaper closely linked to the Dutch labor movement. Alongside that editorial work, he served as a municipal councillor in Amsterdam, giving him a direct role in local public life as well as party politics.
He died in Amsterdam on March 10, 1923. Although not a widely known literary figure today, his life offers a useful glimpse into the people who built the socialist press and political organizations of their time.
