About the author

Born Maria Majocchi in Cento, Italy, on April 23, 1864, she wrote under several pen names, most famously Jolanda. She was a writer, journalist, and publisher, and came from a cultivated family that encouraged literary interests.

Her career ranged across fiction, essays, and editorial work. She is especially remembered for her connection with magazines for young women, including Cordelia, where her writing reached a broad readership and helped make her a recognizable literary voice in Italy.

Majocchi died in Cento on August 8, 1917. Though not as widely known today as some of her contemporaries, she remains an important figure in Italian women's writing for the way she combined storytelling, journalism, and editorial work.
