About the author

Born in London on January 29, 1880, John Frederick Freeman began working young, starting out as an office boy at just 13. He built a strong career in insurance before choosing to devote himself fully to writing, a move that gave his literary life an unusual practical backstory.

Freeman became known as a poet and essayist, and he is often associated with the Georgian poetry movement. He was also part of an important literary circle in England, with friendships that included fellow writers such as Walter de la Mare.

He died on September 23, 1929. Though not as widely read today as some of his contemporaries, Freeman remains an interesting figure for listeners who enjoy reflective poetry, literary essays, and the world of early modern English letters.
