About the author

Born in New York City in 1943, Nelson DeMille became one of America's best-known writers of suspense and adventure novels. He served as a U.S. Army officer in Vietnam before turning to fiction, and that experience helped shape the realism and toughness readers often notice in his work.

Over the course of his career, he wrote many popular novels, including The Charm School, The General's Daughter, and Plum Island. Plum Island introduced John Corey, the sharp-tongued former NYPD detective who became one of DeMille's most popular characters.

DeMille was widely read for his mix of strong plotting, vivid settings, and witty narration. He died in September 2024, leaving behind a long list of bestselling books and a lasting place in modern thriller fiction.
