About the author

Born on February 6, 1893, in St. James, Missouri, John Arch Morrison grew up in a large family in the Ozarks. Anderson University archives describe him as one of ten children who attended a one-room schoolhouse and later taught public school before joining Anderson Bible Training School in 1919.

He took full responsibility as principal in 1923 and became the first president of Anderson College in 1925, serving until 1958. Archival material from Anderson notes that he guided the school through its formative years and strongly supported Christian higher education.

Morrison also wrote widely read religious and inspirational books. Open Library and other catalog sources list works including The Deacon of Dobbinsville, Martin Luther, the Lion-hearted Reformer, Learning How to Be Happy, Triumphant Living, and his autobiography, As the River Flows. He died in 1965.
