Born in Batavia on April 11, 1877, and later active in the Netherlands, Johan Wouter Broedelet built a career as both a writer and a performer. Sources consistently describe him as a Dutch author and actor, which helps explain the theatrical energy in his work.
Broedelet wrote for the stage as well as in prose. Records in the Digital Library for Dutch Literature list works including the drama De verloren zoon and the comedy Carnaval, and they also identify Hofstad (1909) as one of his notable books.
He died in The Hague on September 1, 1946. His name also appears in Dutch theater history through his daughter, actress Joekie Broedelet, whose biography notes that she was the child of actor and playwright Johan W. Broedelet.
